Frost Covered Dunes

Dunes in Chasma Boreale, a giant trough in the north polar cap, were captured in this image taken by the Mars Global Surveyor in September 1998. Dark sand emerges from beneath a veneer of bright frost left over from the northern winter that ended in July, 1998.
