Galileo NIMS PDS4 Archive
The original Galileo NIMS archived data were originally publicly available but not in a format that was readily accessible by the planetary community. This situation precludes the spectral investigation of surface and atmospheric chemistry and mineralogy for these objects. Several aspects of the NIMS data archive contribute to this circumstance, including VAX formatted data files (a platform and format abandoned by the PDS), a challenging radiometric calibration, and the absence of a rigorous camera/sensor model, and/or data products that have been orthorectified or spatially controlled relative to SSI observations or more recent Cassini data products (e.g., VIMS). NIMS data are also not easily accessible by the planetary community. Before this work, NIMS data were only compatible with ISIS2, a program no longer supported by the USGS and no longer functions on some modern computer operating systems (e.g., Apple OS X). Galileo NIMS data were also not compatible with mainstream planetary software, including ENVI/IDL or ISIS3. This effort transitioned the data set to ISIS3 and thereby ISIS3 support interfaces. The NIMS PDS archive contains tube and g-cube data derived from the EDRs. Considering the relatively small scope of this effort only the NIMS tube and g-cube product data are the focus of this work. The objective of this work is to reformat and re-archive the Galileo NIMS data set into a more easily accessible data format. In order to do this we outlined three basic objectives: Objective 1: Create an ISIS3 application that reads and converts the NIMS data cubes into native ISIS3 cubes. NIMS data in the PDS is stored in VAX FLOAT format which is mostly obsolete and not widely used in the community any longer. This objective would ential adding support for conversion of VAX FLOAT to IEEE FLOAT in ISIS; advantageous to the pursuit is existing code in ISIS2 that provided a basis for this work. Here we also sought to seek out problems with the NIMS labels in PDS archive that are not compliant with PDS4 standards. These labels errors are to then be corrected and exported with properly formed labels to the PDS archive. Objective 2: Provide the ability to project NIMS tubes using the existing NIMS latitude, longitude tube backplanes. Objective 3: Derivation of a PDS4 compliant archive of the results of our study and provide it to the PDS for general distribution. These basic initial steps will make NIMS more user friendly and provide active support through ISIS help interfaces. -

Kaguya Gamma-Ray Spectrometer Corrected Spectra Bundle
This archive contains Kaguya Gamma-Ray Spectrometer (KGRS) corrected and calibrated time-series spectra and ephemerides, pointing, and geometry (EPG) data for the nominal and extended observation periods of JAXA's SELENE (Kaguya) mission. The SELENE mission was the Japanese mission to the Moon with a main orbiter “Kaguya” and two daughter relay satellites launched on Sep. 14, 2007. KGRS was mounted on the deck of the main orbiter. It employed a high-purity Ge (HPGe) crystal as a main detector, and surrounding BGO and plastic scintillators as anti-coincidence detectors to reduce backgrounds. The Ge crystal was cooled by a Sterling refrigerator. It made close-proximity observations of the Moon from Dec. 14, 2007 to Dec. 11, 2008 at the high circular orbital altitude of 100 km, and from Feb. 10 to May 28 in 2009 at the low elliptical orbital altitude of ~30 x 50 km. KGRS recorded energy spectra of gamma rays in two gain modes simultaneously; high gain (0.1 to 3 MeV) and low gain (0.1 to 13 MeV), each of which was analyzed by the 13-bit (8192 ch) analog-to-digital converter (ADC). While the former has a higher spectral resolution over the energy range of radioactive elements, the latter has better statistics and covers the whole energy range of major rock-forming elements, including the Fe neutron capture line at 7.6 MeV. The accumulation time of each spectrum was 17 s. Both modes of spectra are included in this archive. The observation epochs of KGRS consists of three regular measurement periods (Period 1 to 3), background measurements, and the annealing of the Ge crystal. The HPGe detector was annealed from 16 to 25, December 2008, which improved energy resolution by a factor of two. Period 1 and 2 lasted two and five months, respectively, with limited spatial or spectral resolutions. Period 3 lasted ~3.5 months (including dead time) with the best spatial and spectral resolutions. In addition, spectra from the background measurement when the satellite was flipped and the detector faced deep space can be analyzed to estimate the background gamma-ray intensity from the satellite due to the exposure to galactic cosmic rays. This archive consists of three spectrum files (each corresponding to one KGRS epoch) and one unified EPG file. The spectrum files contain a time series of corrected and calibrated pulse height spectra acquired by KGRS's HPGe detector in the lunar orbit. In the spectrum files, each row contains the spacecraft clock (sclk) ticks and UTC time corresponding to the end of the accumulation interval (17 s), with the two sets of the 8192-channel HPGe spectra accumulated. In the EPG file, each row starts with sclk recorded at the end of the accumulation interval to match spacecraft positions, pointing, and correction factors with the corrected spectra. Note that the UTC time and ephemeris time included in the EPG file correspond to the midpoint of the accumulation interval. The Kaguya Gamma-Ray Spectrometer Corrected Spectra bundle was created by Naoyuki Yamashita at Planetary Science Institute, AZ, USA, with the permission of JAXA and the KGRS instrument PI Prof. Nobuyuki Hasebe. This work was supported by the NASA under Grant No. NNX16AG54G issued through the Planetary Data Archiving, Restoration, and Tools Program (PDART), Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) 2015. -

Lunar Topography and Photometric Cube Data V1.0
This package contains topography and photometric data generated by the Gaskell Stereophotoclinometry (SPC) software suite. It focuses on six regions on the Moon. These include wrinkle ridges at Dorsa Aldrovandi, two locations of the lunar swirl within Mare Ingenii, Karpinskiy crater, a swirl within Mare Moscoviense, Reiner Gamma, and Tsiolkovskiy crater. We generated regional Digital Terrain Models (DTM), each about 50 to 100 square kilometers, using Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) Narrow Angle Camera (NAC) images from both the right and left cameras. Depending on the location, each vertex of the topography represents heights every 5 to 0.7 meters, with an uncertainty of about one to two vertices. The topography data is provided in both cubes readable by the USGS ISIS program, and as a geoTIFF which can be read by programs such as ArcGIS. We generated photometric data (in cube format) that is aligned to, and has the same horizontal spacing as, the topographic cube data. For each LROC image, four cubes were generated; I/F (reflectance), Local Phase Angle, Local Emission Angle, and Local Incidence Angle. Each cube pixel represents the value at each vertex of the DTM. -

Cassini RPWS Electron Densities from Upper Hybrid and Plasma Wave Frequencies
This bundle provides electron number density values derived from features observed in plasma wave data obtained by the Cassini Radio and Plasma Wave Science (RPWS) instruments, along with observed or derived characteristic frequencies, and useful positional parameters for the spacecraft and related bodies. When present, frequency values of narrowband emissions at the upper hybrid resonance were digitized and combined with measured or model magnetic field to derive electron number density. At other times, features such as the upper cutoff in auroral hiss or electron plasma oscillations were used to determine the plasma frequency and electron density. -

Mini-RF 100mpp Global Mosaics Bundle
The Mini-RF 100mpp global mosaics bundle comprises of eight different maps: the four Stokes parameters, the opposite and same sense parameters, the circular polarization ratio, and the m-chi decomposition. The spatial range of these maps is from 90°S–90°N and 180°W to 180°E with a spatial resolution of 100 meters per pixel (~303 pixels per degree). Areas containing no data are assigned a constant value of ?3.4×1038. The data experienced a readjustment in the data points as it was converted to an equirectangular projection with a longitude of central meridian at 0° using the Integrated Software for Imagers and Spectrometers (ISIS). These data sets are global data sets covering most of the lunar surface. -
