Find a Node - Use these links to navigate to any of the 8 publicly accessible PDS Nodes.

This bar indicates that you are within the PDS enterprise which includes 6 science discipline nodes and 2 support nodes which are overseen by the Project Management Office at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). Each node is led by an expert in the subject discipline, supported by an advisory group of other practitioners of that discipline, and subject to selection and approval under a regular NASA Research Announcement.

DATA_SET_DESCRIPTION
This file is a listing of particle energy spectra from the      Galileo Plasma Instrument (PLS) during the second Earth      Encounter.  Detector reponses from ion detetors 2P, 4P, and      6P, and from electron detector 4E are available through the      PDS as separate files.  The energy resolution, angular fields      of view, and nominal geometric factors for the detectors are      specified in the Instrument Description file.  Data Set Overview  =================    For each detector the responses (Counts/Sample-Period) are given    for a series of energy-per-unit charge steps (E/Q, Volts).  These    responses are summed over spin sectors.  The instrument is    programmable, and operating modes are tailored for different mission    phases to acquire effective measurements.  The E/Q steps and Sample    Periods for different mission phases (through Ida) are tabled below.    			    TABLE A       --------------------------------------------------------------        Mission Phase	Sample Period, 		   E/Q Steps,    			  Seconds		     Table       --------------------------------------------------------------          Venus	       	    0.400  		    Table B          Earth-1		    1.333 		    Table B          Gaspra	 	    1.200 		    Table B          Earth-2		    1.200 		    Table B          Ida 		    1.200 		    Table B       ---------------------------------------------------------------      	     TABLE B      --------------------------------      Step	           E/Q, Volts    	      P2,P4,P6	      E4      --------------------------------       17            21            19       19            29            27       21            41            38       23            57            53       25            80            74       27           112           104       29           157           146       31           220           204       33           303           281       35           454           422       37           686           638       39           961           893       41          1363          1266       43          1958          1819       45          2732          2538       47          3788          3519       49          5490          5100       51          7777          7225       53         10614          9860       55         15189         14110       57         21356         19839       59         29829         27710       61         40443         37570       63         52521         48790

CONFIDENCE_LEVEL_NOTE
The data collected after the closest approach is very poor in quality. The Low-gain attena was pointed away from Earth and all signals were being disrupted. Also, during SITURNS the bit rate dropped to 1200 thus no data is available during those times.
